Updated May 13, 2026 4 min read 1,100 words
This guide is general information, not legal advice. Provincial tenancy law is complex and changes frequently. For specific situations, consult a Northwest Territories paralegal or lawyer, or contact the Office of the Rental Officer (Northwest Territories) directly.

The Northwest Territories Residential Tenancies Act governs residential leases across the territory. No rent cap; security deposit cap of one month rent; an Office of the Rental Officer for dispute resolution. This guide covers the practical rules.

Sourced from Residential Tenancies Act, R.S.N.W.T. 1988, c. R-5 and the NWT Rental Office's current guidance.
